About
Find the nearest shop without giving up your location.
Closebud answers one question: which licensed dispensary is closest to me right now? It answers it fast, from official state data, and it does that math on your phone instead of on a server.
Why it exists
Most dispensary directories are advertising businesses. Shops pay to sit at the top, "featured" results outrank closer ones, and the listing you tap may be a shop that bought the spot rather than the one two blocks away. That's a reasonable way to run a business. It's a bad way to answer "where's the nearest shop."
Closebud sorts by distance. That's the whole ranking. Nobody can pay to move up, because there's nothing to buy.
Where the data comes from
Every shop in Closebud comes from an official state cannabis regulator — the agency that issues the licenses — not from a third-party aggregator or a scraped review site. Right now that's 7,223 licensed retailers across 23 states and jurisdictions.
Using regulator data means a listing is there because the state says it holds an active license. It also means the data is only as fresh as the state's last publication, and that shops close, move, and change hours faster than agencies update spreadsheets. Call ahead.
How the location part works
When you tap Locate me, your browser gives the page your coordinates. Closebud uses them to calculate distance and bearing to every shop in the list — and that calculation runs entirely in your browser. Your coordinates are never sent to Closebud's servers, never logged, and never stored.
This isn't a policy promise, it's how the app is built: the shop list is downloaded to your device once, and the sorting happens locally. There's no server that could receive your location even if someone wanted it to.
The Privacy page covers what is collected when you make an account, and which third parties see anything.
What it costs
Nothing. There are no ads, no sponsored listings, no analytics or tracking scripts, and no data being sold. If that changes, it will be written here and in the changelog before it ships.
Who makes it
Closebud is a small independent project, not a venture-backed directory. It's built and maintained by one person and operated by GCC Grow, LLC. If a shop is listed wrong, missing, or closed, telling me is the fastest way to get it fixed — mybasementgrow@gmail.com.
Closebud shows licensed retailers for informational purposes. It doesn't sell cannabis, doesn't verify age on behalf of any shop, and isn't medical or legal advice. Cannabis remains illegal under U.S. federal law regardless of state licensing.
